What is a caracoa?

Caracoa

A caracoa is large, fast boat used particularly in the southern parts of the Philippine Islands. The boat is generally used during piratical expeditions, in which they commit signal depredations in all the ports and along all the coasts of those islands, killing and capturing the people of them, and burning and ruining the country.

The Amaya production team built a caracoa purposely for the the prime time show. GMA-7 is spending big to for this TV show to rival Mulawin and Encantadia in terms of production value.

Can this 2011 war ship sail as fast as the original 1500’s caracoa?

Notes:

Also spelled as karakoa.
